Root Canal Retreatment

Root Canals

Root canals have a high chance of success however, not every case will heal as expected. There are several situations that will lead to the failure of a previously completed root canal. Some of the common reasons of failure include:

  • Narrow or calcified canals were missed in the initial treatment
  • Saliva contamination within the previous root canal
  • Delay of a restoration or crown on the previous root canal
  • Poor quality of the root canal filling material

These cases may require 3D imaging to determine the best way to navigate the situation. In addition, these types of cases can require more than one visit to complete.
